My husband died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. He was from Colombia. He came to this country illegally and although his situation was fixed by the time he died, there was a lot of difficulty along the way.
I always found it ironic that my husband died as an American hero in something that generated so much anti-immigrant legislation and sentiment. I also always thought that if he had lived he may have even been a victim of an anti-immigrant hate crime.
I have lobbied for the DREAM Act with 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.
