Virtual Reality at DAFF - Define American

Virtual Reality

The Crossing

RYOT and the Huffington Post present The Crossing, a virtual reality film and immersive reporting series hosted by Susan Sarandon chronicling the refugee crisis as it unfolds in Greece. The shores of the Mediterranean see thousands of refugees every day who arrive on small boats, evidence for which is seen everywhere in massive piles of discarded life vests. Most of the arrivals are fleeing from Syria and Afghanistan in search of safety, economic stability, and a better life.

From director Matthew Cooke, Confinement is a short virtual reality film that places the viewer firsthand in the place of an inmate within solitary confinement. The piece allows participants to experience a small taste of the emotional trauma more than 80,000  Americans placed in solitary confinement endure in order to survive.

Standing Rock Part 2

A first-person glimpse into the acts of violence the water protectors at Standing Rock are subject to on a daily basis as they peacefully demonstrate to protect the natural resources of 18 million Americans.

As winter starts to make its presence known at Standing Rock, water protectors remain committed to ending construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, preparing themselves and their camp for the harsh North Dakota cold.
