Every natural born American should attend a swearing in ceremony for newly naturalized citizens. They happen every day all over the country – and that is where you will hear patriotic stories. Unscripted, these men and women of all ages, from all over the world will tell you why becoming an American citizen is so important to them, and this is riveting stuff.
I am an immigrant. I’m blonde with an English accent. I wasn’t fleeing persecution, and I might have had as good a chance elsewhere. But America has been good to me. And I have been good to America – as have most immigrants. They have worked hard and contribted to their communities.
Have you, as a naturally born American, done all you can to be a good citizen? Is the definition of a worthy person that of someone who tries to better themselves, pulls themselves up and tries to make the best life for their family? Does that not define many immigrants throughout the world? Do they take from their new homes or do they give back? What do you picture when you hear the word immigrant?
