I am a 16-year-old boy of Mexican nationality who lives in a Bordertown in South Texas, And I define as American.
I am no different from you, your child, your friends, ext. I have dreams to go to College, to travel the world, and to achieve great things. Although, that is only on the surface. I, along with 11 million other people in the Unites States are (Or in my case was) an Undocumented Immigrant.
Until I obtained my work permit in November of 2013 I was in constant fear that I, or my family would get deported. I was scared that I’d go to college, and not be able to obtain a job since I didn’t have a Social Security Number. Although all that fear is behind me now, I feel a responsibility to speak up for those who are scared too. As I was less than a year ago. There are millions of Undocumented Americans living in the United States today. The reason that number might shock you is because these people are just like you, your children, your friends, and I.
We are American because we dream of making this a better America for all of us, and are willing to put in the hard work that it requires. The way I see it, that has more value than any form of documentation will ever have.
